Preparing

Step 3: Preparing to Teach

We’ve developed a variety of resources to ensure you have the tools you need to support students in

We’ve developed a variety of resources to ensure you have the tools you need to support students in developing foundational skills and building background knowledge—no matter which materials you have available or where learning is happening. In this section, you’ll find information on using Amplify CKLA digitally—whether you and your students have access to technology and/or personalized accounts or not.

CKLA instruction begins with a review from the previous year. We recommend you schedule an additional 30-minute instructional block for unfinished foundational skills instruction from spring 2022. Learn more about the PreK–2 resources below.

Intervention Toolkit

Amplify’s Intervention Toolkit provides downloadable assessment tools as well as the intervention resources you need to help students catch up after the challenges of the previous year. You can learn more about how to use these assessment and intervention resources here.

When you’re ready to start teaching:

  • Begin grade-level instruction with Unit 1 in every grade, utilizing recommended instructional minutes.
  • In grades 1–3, CKLA instruction begins with review from the previous year.
  • For grades 1–3, we recommend you schedule an additional 30-minute instructional block for unfinished foundational skills instruction from spring 2021.
  • For grades 4–5, you may choose to start the school year with the optional novel guide materials.

Digital Learning

If you will be teaching without access to CKLA print materials, we recommend teacher-led lessons for daily Skills and Knowledge Strand lessons in K–2 and daily lessons in 3–5.

In the Student Hub, students will have access to K–2 Skills Strand components such as Student Readers and the Sound Library, K–2 Knowledge components like Knowledge Builders, and the 3–5 Vocab App and Grades 3–5 Student Readers.

Planning Documents

To access planning tools, click your grade level below. You will be directed to the Teacher Resources site. Select Planning Documents in the left menu to find Supply and Spelling lists, Scope and Sequence and a Pacing Guide . (Note: You can always toggle between grade levels by clicking the grade icon in the upper left corner of the page.)

Technical Requirements

Whether you are logged in with your own or shared credentials, there are two important steps to ensure you and your students can access the Amplify CKLA digital resources.

You and your students may be prompted to “accept cookies” when first accessing the program. Your computer or tablet must be set to “accept cookies” from Amplify program sites. If prompted, select to allow cookies for the Amplify site.

If you see only a blank page – nothing appears to load – when trying to access an Amplify program page (such as ckla.amplify.com), please check with your IT group to confirm that the URLs on this page have been allowed for your district network. A blank screen is often a sign that the website is being blocked by a school’s content filter.
